F***, if this is what college is like, im not going!

If your not a fan of college lit, you will really like this post

I took this class to help me prepare for college, but am still learning what I did in 7th grade English class. Although I am not in college yet, I feel that I am not learning what I should to prepare me for college next year. I dont mean to be offensive at all towards Kunkle, hes a cool guy, but this class is kinda lame. Also, Im not saying this because of all the reading, Im actually a big fan of reading, but whats up with the choice of books that we read? I think Caucasia is actually the only good book we have read so far.

That brings me to FWJs. We have a lot of them.. and I think it would be best if we didnt waste paper and stick to open conversations in class. If people dont want to discuss in class, then thats their participation problem. I find that I say more out loud than I do on paper.

AND THEN theres the whole ADD factor the class has. It seems like we jump from topic to topic with out completely covering it, and try to get back to it at the end of class, but before we know it, class is over.

Once again, Im not trying to bash Mr. Kunkle, Im just speaking my mind and thats why we do these blogs right?

OMG!!! I agree with this post 100%. Nothing against Mr. Kunkle at all. I think this is the only book i truly read. I skimmed most of the packets, to be honest. And I half read the books. I just felt uninterested in this class and I felt like it was just another quarter of AP Composition.

Wow! @.@

Quite the post! lol :P

I will agree and say that Caucasia is definitely the best book that we've read so far in class; however, I didn't really think Metamorphosis was too bad either. Slaughterhouse Five... I can live without though. x.x

I highly disagree though about the journals. For me, I speak much more clearly and abundantly on paper than in class, so I actually like the journals most of the time.

Finally, I don't really think that our class has much of an ADD problem, but that's probably because we have fewer people than in your 2nd block class. I think that point in your post is mostly because there's just many more people in your class, which probably leads to all of the jumping of discussions.

In the end though, I admire your bravery for speaking out! @.@

Ahhh, and Lisa says "You just go girl!" She's too lazy to sign on at the moment. :P

I think it's cool you have the bravery to speak out. That's really awesome.

I disagree however. I have liked all of the books we have read so far. I don't mind the journals either, although I wish we could have more just free-range-do-what-you-want journals.

And Marisa, AP comp is amazing, and should not be dissed. Not ever. It's like dissing your family.

Compliments on your ability to say this. I agree that with your frustration with the class. When i sat through the first few days, i had no clue what was going on. I had no idea what we were doing. I know that analyzing literature is neccessary, but i dont understand how some of the topics related with the class. so mr. kunkle, i liked the class but i think it needs clarifying.

I also think that is brave for you post this.

I kind of disagree with you. I feel like I did learn things.
I think Mr. Kunkle picked the books that he did for a reason. I think that he was just trying to expose us to different ideas and get us out of our comfort zones.
I didnt like any of the books until Caucasia.

I've also talked to people who graduated and they say that college lit did help them out. They talked about some of the same big ideas and in their class they could reference back to college lit.

I think that you need to soak in the knowledge and go to college and then see if this class helped you.

...just my thoughts

Yea, I do agree with you on most of that. I mean, I don't really participate, but I love the discussion the class has. We have very long, hard discussions. It's really interesting.

On the other hand, I sometimes dread class. It's not only College Lit., but every class. Sometimes I'm just not into school.

Good post Lindsey!

I agree with you for the most part! I was sort of ready for a class that was college material, not just another english 9 and what not! I think that it's awesome you've spoke out for probably most of the kids in the class!

Also, the books deffinately dont seem like college books if that was the point of the class! they're some pretty easy books, and not too great of ones either.

Sorry Kunkle, but I have to agree with Lindsey here.

Haha Nice title! But I totally get what your saying because this is so much reading and a lot of weird readings at that.. But it sure has taught me that i need to get more prepared for college.
